Another one! Earlier today Breyer sent out emails to those who were chosen to purchase Bunyan, and then BAM!!! they reveal another web special. This time we get Montana, on the Bighorn Ram mold. He is black with large, gold splatters (?!) with golden hooves and horns. The splatters look like popcorn to me, and if the splatters were smaller maybe he wouldn’t look so… oh heck, just pick an adjective of your choice, lol. Montana is a run of 490 pieces and is priced at $140, a price point which is much lower than I thought it would be.
This isn’t the first time Breyer has used a glossy black background with metallic-y colors. The first appearance was the SM Unicorn chase piece on the Magnolia mold (2019), and the second time was another unicorn chase piece on the Prince Charming mold (2020). Both of those models had splatters that are a coppery-orange, but I’d call them more orange. Some hobbyists referred to this color as Halloween Florentine, which is a good descriptor, although that is not the official Breyer name for that decorator color (Breyer never gave one to my knowledge). Here is the Halloween Florentine Magnolia:
I cannot find my Halloween Florentine Prince Charming (which shelf has he been shoved on?), but his color is like that of Magnolia. I have also noticed that Montana’s eye sort of gets lost among the popcorn spots:
Here he is again, against a mountainous background:
I just had a thought. Maybe he’s supposed to have gold nuggets on his coat? Was he panning for gold in a river, struck gold and it stuck in his coat? Maybe, ‘cause look here. Gold nuggets:
I am definitely entering for this guy, and really hope I’m drawn for one.
