Exotic Destinations Series Third Release: Rio

The third model in the Exotic Destinations series has been revealed! We’ve landed on the continent of South America, and are visiting Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Meet Rio (# 712531), a Mangalarga Marchador stallion. This sooty buckskin is representing Brazil’s national horse breed. He is available to members of the Collector Club through a lottery draw. Members can enter for a chance to purchase Rio from May 22 through May 27, 2024. His cost is $185 plus shipping and handling and is a run of 600 pieces.

I absolutely love the paint job on this model, but unfortunately I don’t love the mold. Therefore I won’t be entering the lottery draw. I do hope to see Breyer use this color again. Good luck to all who enter for him!

And of course, here is our destination on the globe:

And a bonus close up since Rio de Janeiro is hard to see in the above photo:

Be on the lookout for our next stop!

Exotic Destinations Series Second Release: Mumbai

Get your socks and toothbrush packed, we’re off again! Landing in India, the second destination of Breyer’s new series, we meet a Marwari stallion named Mumbai (#712530). A bay sabino stallion, Mumbai is priced at $195 plus shipping and handling. He is a run of 600 pieces, and will be available to Collector Club members through a random drawing for a chance to purchase him. Entries for the random drawing will be accepted from 3/14/24 through midnight on 3/18/24.

Mumbai has blue eyes, as did the first release in the series, Reykjavik. And both destination countries begin with the letter ‘I’ as well. Uh-oh, time to get the conspiracy theories going, muhuhuhu! They do differ in that Mumbai is priced $10 more than Reykjavik.

While Mumbai has intricate jigsaw splats, there is an awful lot of white on this model. I really hope he has a basecoat and isn’t bare plastic. Of course, that will not deter me from entering for him as I adore this mold, but only the Marwari version. I dislike the toupee version very much, and the only toupee version I have is Khalid (#1813). Luck dragons out to all who enter for him!

Here is our destination on the globe:

Where shall we go next? Stay tuned!

A Horse With No Name, Actually a Horse With the Wrong Name

Sometimes when we (okay me) become too accustomed to calling someone/something by the incorrect name, it is easy to forget the proper name.  This happened to me recently while reading the Model Horse Madness blog.  I was reading about this mysterious, yet to be released model named Lafayette and how the blog owner was stalking Breyer’s website so she wouldn’t miss out on him...and I’m thinking, “Who is Lafayette?  How did I miss this information?”  So I asked who Lafayette was, and got my answer.  Turns out, I knew who Lafayette was-but by a different name.  I had been calling him GBH, which stands for Glossy Black Hamilton.  *smacks self in head*  He is the Collector Club Special model open for purchase to all CC members (sold on a first come first serve basis).  I too have been stalking Breyer’s website as I don’t want to miss out on him-he will be a quick sellout for sure.  I really think Breyer should have taken preorders on Lafayette, as they have done for some past CC models.  He has not yet been released, but it should be soon.  I will continue my stalking...in the meantime, here is Lafayette, aka GBH:

Ruuuuuuuuuuun!!! The Birds!!!

Scene from Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds, 1963.  Or maybe it’s from the Ninja Pit of Death.

Ooooooo, that’s a dramatic beginning now, isn’t it?  In the January 2021 Collector Club Newsletter Breyer showed us a sneak peek square of a new Web Special theme for 2021:

This glossy black hint had collectors speculating as usual.  It certainly wasn’t Lafayette, the glossy black Collector Club Web Special, since we have already seen him (as of this writing he has not been released).

Today Breyer revealed the new theme and the new Web Special-meet Puffin, the first model from  Breyer’s Birds of a Feather web series!

Limited to 380 pieces, Puffin is a sabino spotted draft mare done on the Wixom mold...with a glossy finish!  Breyer has made the change from entering daily to entering once during the entry period for the lottery draw.  I am very interested to see how the rest of the series flies (dumb pun time).

Here is some puffin humor in honor of the new web series:
