Getting A Head (or two)

When the great Collectors Club Appreciation sale happened, it was tough to find stuff to buy to hit the $150 threshold. I had already purchased the item, or it was out of stock, or it was simply stuff I had no interest in. Let’s change that last one into things I thought I had no interest in. Here we go with the impulse buy:

Oh yes, the perfect thing to supply endless entertainment, lol. Breyer also has a bay head and a grey (white) one, as well as a unicorn one. But wait, there’s more! Turns out that there is a dapple grey head which is a Tractor Supply exclusive. Who knew The Godfather inspired busts would warrant their own TSC exclusive? Of course, it means this happened:

I bought this as a semi-impulse purchase. I was checking out what my local Tractor Supply Company (TSC) had for their post Christmas sale. Seems they never even got the Christmas horse in, so I bet we’ll see plenty of Arctic Grandeurs floating around in the future. In fact, I was checking the stores in my area using the ‘Find in Stores’ feature to see what was available where. My TSC didn’t get Cirrus or Wilder in until a couple of days before Christmas, which unfortunately means due to the shipping issues they weren’t able to get their Breyer shipments out until the last minute. I ordered some stuff and when I went to pick the order up a couple of days after Christmas, the Breyer section was quite full. Most of the Breyer stuff was marked down 30%, whereas in the past they’d be marked down to 50% off. I had bought Cirrus earlier (in the fall) and she had to be shipped to my store. When I went in to pick her up, the Breyer section was sparse, with gaping holes where missing merchandise was to go. A few days later I was trying to help a fellow collector find one, but Cirrus was suddenly unavailable. I couldn’t even get one shipped to my local store. The blind bags never appeared either, which robbed me of the fun of getting bizarre stares while feeling the bags to decipher the contents. Good times, y’all.

Here they are freed from their boxes:

Oh, and the heads have names… the TSC one is Dapple and the other is named Sunset. I think she’s supposed to be a flaxen chestnut, or a blonde according to Breyer, lol. Psssssst… she’s not Barbie, or is she? I suppose it depends on whether or not she drives a pink corvette. As for the heads I don’t own, the bay one is Blaze, who doesn’t have a blaze but a solid face, and the white-grey head is called Daybreak. The names are bad, almost as bad as if I were naming them. No wait, I think even I could have come up with better names. I think I will rename both of them and we’ll see how bad my names are. Their ears are a bit long, so maybe I can put multiple earrings on them. Breyer has a video and print directions on how to customize the heads (by two different artists), as well as print directions on how to make a fancy braided crystal halter. Maybe I’ll try making the halter. Now that should be high quality entertainment, lol.

The two of them together with their accessories:

This made me laugh:

Really? When 50 of those pieces are straight up hair elastics? I thought the ‘mane’ (stupid pun time) selling point was the horse head? I guess quantity of elastics counts for something.

  1. I get weird stares too. Went shopping with a non horsey friend once and they were so uncomfortable with the looks that they went to the back of the store lol! But hey, I got the grullo pinto reiner out of it so it was worth it. :)

  2. Hahaha, that’s great! And I agree, the Reiner was worth it.
