Winter Web Special Sneak Peek Square, November Collectors Club Newsletter Delay

Breyer sent out an email announcement that the November CC newsletter will be delayed due to technical difficulties (or maybe they forgot about it altogether, haha). Buuuuuuuuuuuuut they gave us this Sneak Peek Square of a silver filigree something Winter Web Special. I just hope that something isn’t something I conga, notably Georg. I have decided not to examine the square closely in an attempt to figure out which mold it is. This way I can be happily surprised if it’s not Georg, and sadly surprised if it is. If it is Georg, I will certainly enter for him, but won’t pursue him on the secondary market. I will still have four other beautiful Georgs on my shelf.  :)  Breyer states that they think this Winter Web Special will be a ‘slam dunk,’ so we’re going to see something mighty popular. Speaking of popular and silver filigree, let’s go into the past to a different popular silver filigree. Time to get out your rocking chairs and sit on the porch for a bit o’ reminiscin.’ I remember in 2008 when Breyer announced there would be a December Web Special, with the hint that he was a big model and in an infrequently used (at the time) decorator color. Everyone (rightly) guessed Wintersong… and of course there is a spectacle of a story to tell.

Breyer didn’t specify a time when this mystery Web Special would be available, but many guessed it would probably be in the morning. I had a slight problem as I was in a different time zone, had to drop my kids off (at two different schools) and then go to work. This was in 2008, so ordering from the website via phone wasn’t an option as I had a flip phone (the first iPhone had just come out in 2007). I remember I made the rash decision to drive home after dropping the last kid off at school to see if the Web Special had appeared instead of going to work straightaways. Yes, really. I always left home a bit early to compensate for traffic and had never been late for work, so I estimated if I spent around 5-7 minutes at home I should still be able to skid into work on time. I couldn’t believe what I was doing in the name of plastic ponies. I arrived home about 8:30-ish and hopped onto Breyer’s site, and there was Silver Snow, a silver filigree Wintersong, with a $140 price tag. I hesitated as I thought it was a bit much, but then ordered him (lol, look at what I pay for models now without blinking an eye).

I hurried off to work and found out about the morning ordering debacle later in the day. Turned out that due to a Shop-a-tron glitch, some collectors who placed the first orders ended up having their orders canceled. Silver Snow sold out before noon, and if I am remembering correctly I found out later he went live before I had left my house that morning. There was no way I could have checked because of the morning school/work get ready riot. Once Silver Snow arrived I totally didn’t regret paying that $140 for him. And a tidbit of information here regarding ordering: there was no limit on how many Silver Snows you were allowed to buy per transaction. I remember people ordering additional Silver Snows to help out overseas collectors. I almost bought two, one of which would have been for my sister. Then I thought if she had already bought one, I’d be stuck with a $140 horse. So I purchased just one, only to find out later she hadn’t been able to check Breyer’s website until early afternoon and he was long gone by then.

Even if the newsletter isn’t ready, I hope Breyer reveals the Winter Web Special to us soon!
